Preparing for the CT scan

Before undergoing a CT-scan, you need to inform your doctor if:

  • you have ever been allergic to iodated contrast medium;
  • you have thyroid problems (administering the contrast medium by persons suffering from hiperthyroidism can cause thyrotoxicosis, and for those who are under treatment with radioactive iodine, the contrast medium renders the treatment inefficient, blocking the thyroid gland);
  • you are pregnant;
  • you have heart problems, such as cardiac insufficiency;
  • you have been administered barium for an X-Ray;
  • you have metallic objects in the examined area, such as earrings or dental prosthetics, that can affect the image and you need to remove them.
