Preparing for the test

  • for the upper-abdominal sonogram the patient shouldn't eat for 8 hours before the procedure, or drink coffee or other sweet liquids;
  • for the general abdominal sonogram the patient shouldn't eat for 8 hours before the procedure, or drink coffee or other sweet liquids; the patient must drink 750 ml of still water an hour before the investigation and shouldn't urinate;
  • for the lower-abdominal sonogram it is recommended that the patient drinks 750 ml of still water an hour before the investigation and shouldn't urinate (in order to have a full urinary bladder);
  • for the sonogram of the renal arteries, portal system, splanchnic vessels – the patient shouldn't eat for 8 hours before the investigation.

 

Talk to the doctor about the sonogram you are about to undergo, or ask the call center operators about what you should do to prepare better for the procedure.
